Bekah Steimel – I’m Always Out of Line

June 30, 2014 | By | 2 Replies More

when others draw them

I’ve learned to carry an eraser

and a set of wings

I’ve learned oppression

is not protection

your inhibitions

will not preserve you

our bodies slowly spoil

simply from the heat of existence

I have always chosen

to acknowledge the decay

and pit myself

in a race against the rotting,

allowing my mind to recognize

and admit

I am now closer to inexorable death

than when I first began this poem
