Wanderlust by Sarah McTeer Ogburn

Have you seen her?
She is a little girl
With black hair and big green eyes
And an even bigger smile.
She sings at the top of her voice
And twirls around in open spaces
In front of people.

Have you seen her?
She is whole
And happy
And believes in the good of people
And that she is beautiful and perfect and a princess.
She eats until she is full and
Scratches when she has an itch.
She owns a pair of red shoes that she taps three times,
Making wishes for others.

Have you seen her?
She knows no evil, no loss, no sadness,
She smiles at strangers, waves goodbye when she
Gets off the bus
She stares at people sitting on the street
And doesn’t understand why they
Are not at home.

Have you seen her?
She is a little girl
With black hair and big green eyes
And I would like to find her again.
